The hockey team Olimpija Ljubljana is starting preparations for the new season

Yesterday, the players of Olimpija Ljubljana gathered for their first official training session, marking the start of preparations for the 2024/25 season, where they will compete in the international ICE league and the domestic championship. In addition to winning the National Championship, the team’s goal is to secure a direct spot in the ICE league playoffs. The club enters the new season with notable domestic reinforcements and established foreign players, bringing valuable experience and quality to the team.

Anže Ulčar, Director: “We are at the beginning of a season that represents an important step in the development of our organization. The strong foundations we have laid in previous seasons will be further enhanced with the arrival of a strategic partner, both organizationally and in terms of marketing, and we believe that results will follow. With high goals comes responsibility, but this is a challenge that everyone in the club is excited about. We have a month and a half of preparations ahead before the season starts on September 20th, and we want to be in top form by then.”

Upi Karhula, Head Coach: “The summer was long, and I’m happy that the season has begun. I have a great feeling about the team. I’m pleased that we have retained the core of the squad. I expect the younger players to continue progressing, while the domestic and foreign reinforcements bring experience and a winning mentality to the team. We have a good mix of experience, youth, and quality, which adds depth to our roster. This will also increase competition within the team, and the players will have to earn their ice time. We want to play attractive and aggressive hockey, maintaining possession of the puck. The players enjoy this style, and our fans do too. I believe we’ll make significant progress in terms of results as well.”

Andrej Tavželj, Assistant Coach: “The role of assistant coach is something new for me. It’s great to be part of an organized and ambitious team. I approach my duties with a lot of energy and a desire for personal growth. I’ll pay special attention to the young domestic players, as we want them to take on more responsibility. I’ll also assist Head Coach Upi a lot with video analysis. The team is well-constructed, so expectations are justifiably high. However, nothing will be given to us, and we will have to prove ourselves from game to game.”
